I know I’m late to the party, but in this one I’m taking a first look at the Bosch PBD 40, a modern take on the traditional drill press that I picked up on a Black Friday special; even with the discount it’s still around four times the price of my old drill - is it really four times better?
I bought my Bosch PBD 40 from Amazon here - https://amzn.to/4g9luF6

Can anyone with this drill send me the OD for the pillar?
I have a version of this style drill that's sold in the US (Klutch from Northern Tool), which I unfortunately dropped and broke the base plate. A spare part is available from Bosch, but I cannot confirm anywhere else if the OD of the pillars is the same. The OD of this drill is 46mm.
Thanks for any help!
You've got me wanting one of these now! Just noticed on Boschs product video they show the fence being used on the user side of the workpiece rather then the pillar side. Would stop it fouling the clamp, but obviousy limits the width of the piece
So right about not wanting a project. All these people who recommend the old tools seem to enjoy the process of restoring them and also have the workshop to do so..
'oh yeah that part was known to break on them but it's ok, I just made a new one on my metal lathe'. And then you need a whole new imperial toolkit and then find out you need a 5/16" reverse thread bolt which will take 3 days to arrive from wherever you order it. For the thing about the clamps and them fouling the drill, Carmonious Finsnickeri just posted a video showing his drill press table - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gquRqOW661I&t=442s In it he demonstrates some low clearance clamps which might be…
No no Peter, NO!
I already wrote it under the last video (or was it in the forum), the drill is very popular here in Germany, I don't know how many times I've fiddled around with it in the Bauhaus and almost had it in my shopping trolley 😜.
But so far my drill stand is enough for the cordless screwdriver! And I've just bought new rails, the TS55 has been ordered 😇 (finally)
Yes, it's nearly Christmas, but my wife has already got an entry lvl plunge saw for me.
