Is Metabo's MFT Moment a Hit or a Miss? [member edit]

For all 10MW Plus members

In this one I take a look at the new #Metabo MWB100 ‘MFT*-alike’ #portable #workbench and see if it lives up to the promise it made on paper.

I am not associated or affiliated in any way with Metabo, I purchased this bench as any customer would, and I bought mine from ProTrade, here -  https://www.protrade.co.uk/product/metabo-mwb100-multifuction-workbench/

You’ve tickled the fancy of your audience — loads of comments on the public video! 😀

Thankfully a reamer will take care of the dog hole sizing. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The four interior holes with screws embedded in them — that seems to be a Loch Ness problem. 🦕

A rolling table would be nice to offset the nearly 50-lb weight. 🛞

For the nominal sizes of cabinet panels (uppers, lowers and wardrobes), is there sufficient cross-cutting space on the table?

Really solid, objective review. If I could get that mft here in the US, I would, no question. I understand your point about the dog holes, however, in my personal opinion, if there are manufacturing flaws I'd rather have them a bit too small than too large. I don't mind spending another $25 on a dog hole reamer, still WAY more cost effective than the Festool or Dashboard. Lastly, in my experience, even with the few quite expensive things I've bought, they all seem to have some little niggle that you'd think the manufacturer would have solved.

Cheers Paul! I’ve no regrets about buying it, and I agree I’d rather have the holes a bit tight than too loose!

I think it’s important for any potential buyers to know what they’re getting into though; they may have a fence and a rail hinge that cost more than this bench and if there’s a chance they can’t open the box and use them right away then they need to be aware of that.

True though - can’t think of a single thing I’ve bought that didn’t need *something* sorting out! 🤷‍♂️👍

The slightly undersized dog holes didn't bother me, though I already had the Axminster reamer so I was prepared for it!

Interesting you mentioned the t-slot being tight on one plastic corner, I've noticed that on two of my corners but luckily not as bad as yours, I wondered about sanding/chiseling it down a bit but it's not bothered be quite enough to actually do anything yet 😂

What really irks me is the way the legs unfold - I just find the braces fiddly and awkward! And I have to adjust the legs every time, because there's not enough clearance to keep them extended to my preferred height while flat packed. But that's just a tall person problem, the…

I prefer a lower bench so the legs work well for me! Graham had the same issue with one of his corners and filed it back. 👍

This 19/20mm issue is strange. My mini SJobergs work top has 19mm holes by design. My nephew made me a MFT style worktop from MDF on a CRC machine, I asked for 20mm holes but when it arrived the holes were 19mm. He cut 20mm holes so it makes me wonder if some MDF changes shape after cutting, as ordinary wood does. I enlarged some of the holes to 20mm. I have a collection of cheap 19mm and 20mm things I can use depending on which top I’m using.

Depends on the MDF, but generally speaking MDF very stable, dimensionally.

Great video Peter. What a nuisance about the dog holes. Love the portability, and the angled holes for angled cuts makes sense if you use your track saw as a chop saw. I’ve recently bought the Festool FS-

WA which I’ve used extensively this week extending the over hang on a shed. I have a chop saw but I find it easier using my cordless TS 55, taking the tool to work.

Time now to break down a sheet of ply, which means settling up my first bench in the garden. Thank goodness the weather is kind!

The bench is from 2014, an early Ron Paulk design, was my main bench until February 2022 when I downsized to the Paulk Smart bench. I kept the old one for breaking down sheets. It lives in a poly tunnel and is quite easy to move since it splits in two.
