Making Metabo’s ‘MFT’ Better [member edit]

For all 10MW Plus members

In this one I revisit the Metabo MWB100 and Excel portable benches, get to the bottom of the ‘tight dog-hole’ issue and take you though a couple of ways to make it right.

Metabo UK have confirmed that whilst they make the dog-holes on the MWB100 a snug fit, a ‘small number’ with undersized holes are already in the system; Metabo’s head of sales and marketing has confirmed that using a reamer to open up the dog-holes in the bench top will not invalidate your warranty.

I am not associated or affiliated in any way with Metabo, I purchased this bench as any customer would, and I bought mine from ProTrade, here -  https://www.protrade.co.uk/product/metabo-mwb100-multifuction-workbench/

Replacement top for the Excel workbench available here - https://karvdcnc.myshopify.com/products/excel-workbench-replacement-top

I am not affiliated or associated with the above companies, I am simply a happy customer.

Hi Peter . your comment re the 76mm hole centres on the Excell MFT . something at the back of my mind knew that measurement from some where .. and the old grey matter as usual in the middle of the night enlightened me ! 76mm is the gap between the 20mm dog holes .. maybe some one misinterpreted the the dimensions ! So:

Metabo 'MFT' @ £200.00 + replacement top @ £59.00* = £259.00

2 x Excel Mini-Me MFT @ £160.00 + 2 x replacement tops @ £102.00** = £262.00

* includes £4.00 for delivery, which seems very cheap to me

** £12.00 for delivery, irrespective of quantity being 1 or 2

My suspicion is that you can get 2 x upgraded Excel for slightly less than 1 x upgraded Metabo - once the delivery charges are made consistent.

I know what I would do - if I hadn't spent a similar amount on a Wolfcraft........

That is before factoring in that I have a UJK Parf Mk II Guide System, so could make my own tops.

And it is also before…

Cheers Malcolm! There is every chance that I'll be drilling out those rivets to take a look at the profile cross-section, just not today! 👍

Excellent fit, nice job Derek 👍 and a very good, easy solution.

I had to laugh when your watch thought you'd fallen, as I get that a lot when I'm in the workshop 😂😂.

Cheers Marc! Yes, absolutely; I appreciate it is an additional cost that some folks won't want, but in terms of time saved and the guarantee of a perfect top at the end of it then I think it's the best option.
