Late in the day, my apologies - wasnt !sure I'd get this one out today!
Confused about cutters? Baffled by bits? Then this ABC (Arbor, Bearing, Cutter) video might be for you!
I am not affiliated in any way with Wealden Tools, any product links are provided as a courtesy.
Grooving bit I used in the Trim Router Shaker Door video is a T5464 - 6.4mm groove, 1/4”, 40mm across, 13.6mm max depth of groove.
This needs a 1/4’ shank, 1/4’ shaft arbor so T3010 (26mm long) or T3020 (36mm) depending on how many bits you expect to run; short arbor is better for a single grooving bit, I used the T3010.
The bearing used depends on depth of cut, for max (13.6mm) you need the TB504 - 1/2” bearing for 1/4” shank
As a complete novice when it comes to powered routers I can understand how difficult it is to create videos on the topic. This video helped me understand what a collet is, though I am still puzzled as to why someone would need different sized collets that all fit on one size of shank. For example I see collet sets of 6,6.35 and 8mm. Does the collet size have to match some size of the bit it is attaching to the shank?
I think I am getting a better understanding of what the bearing is for and how it works but not yet sure about the upper and lower bearing aspects. More study required there. I like to understand these…
We hobby folks in the USA tend to buy a set of router bits or the individual ones that are already “put together”.
It was an 👀-opener to learn one can customize the ABCs!
You should sell the videos to schools as educational videos!
I'm not aware of any Youtuber who can pack so much information into such a short video and explain it in a way that even the dimmest candle on the cake will understand 🤭
Looking forward to the router video series that Peter has just announced. Each time I've used one, I've made a proper horlicks of it. I'm becoming a specialist in creating firewood
